Madras University Chennai won the All India Inter University Chess Women’s Tournament

The title of winner in the All India Inter University Chess (Women) Tournament 2024-25 went to Madras University Chennai. Along with this, Adamas University, Kolkata stood second and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad stood third. SRM University, Chennai got the fourth position. Giving information in this regard, DU Director of Physical Education and Sports, Dr. Anil Kumar Kalkal said that this tournament was organized from 18 to 20 March in the Multi Purpose Hall located in the Sports Complex of Delhi University.

The awards were given by the Chief Guest Dr. Baljit Singh Sekhon, Joint Secretary, AIU at the closing ceremony of the tournament. Sekhon emphasized the importance of the role of sports in the lives of students. The tournament was organized in a very smooth and fair manner. Dr Kalkal informed that the responsibility of organizing the All India Inter University Chess (Women) Tournament 2024-25 was entrusted to Delhi University by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.

He informed that a total of 16 universities from 4 zones participated in this All India Inter University Chess (Women) Tournament. From the Northern Zone, Delhi University, Punjab University Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh University (HP) and Punjabi University Patiala were there. From the Eastern Zone, Adams University West Bengal, Hemchand Yadav University Durg (Chhattisgarh), University of Calcutta and Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur (Chhattisgarh) were included. From the Southern Zone, Madras University Chennai, Anna University Chennai, Bharathiar University (Coimbatore) Tamil Nadu and SRM IST University Tamil Nadu were participating. Dr Kalkal informed that from the Western Zone, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Pune, University of Mumbai and Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Nashik were participating. He informed that 96 chess players were participating in these 16 teams.
