After GATE result is declared candidates get admission for MTech/MAch/MPlan courses. There are two counseling platforms that exist in India. Let us understand the difference between these platforms. CCMT (Centralized Counseling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan) and COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) are two different counseling processes for M.Tech admissions in India.
- CCMT (Centralized Counseling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan): Conducts centralized counseling for admissions into NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs based on GATE scores.
- COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal): Acts as a platform for IITs to provide admission offers to M.Tech candidates based on their GATE scores. It does not conduct counseling but allows candidates to accept/reject offers from different IITs.
- Candidates with 60 percent or above can participate in COAP counseling.
Candidates can also see the passing percentage in each of the papers in the year 2024.
CCMT And COAP: Institutes Covered
- CCMT: Covers NITs, IIITs, and some GFTIs (Government-Funded Technical Institutes).
- COAP: Covers IITs and IISc Bangalore (but candidates must apply separately to each IIT/IISc before registering on COAP).
Counseling/Admission Process:
CCMT
- Single registration is required.
- Candidates fill in their choices of NITs/IIITs/GFTIs.
- A centralized seat allocation process is conducted in multiple rounds.
- Candidates accept the seat, pay fees, and complete admission.
COAP
- Candidates must apply individually to each IIT/IISc before registering on COAP.
- COAP only serves as a platform where IITs/IISc publish offers.
- Candidates do not make choices, but they can accept/reject offers.
- If a candidate accepts an offer, they must complete admission directly with the respective IIT.
Application And Admission Timeline
- CCMT: Starts after GATE results (typically in May-June).
- COAP: Multiple rounds of offers from IITs start around April-July after GATE results.
