To Assist the Superintending Archaeologist in the discharge of his official functions which include following:

1. Documentation of antiquities.
2. Village to Village Survey of antiquarian remains.
3. Drawing of inspection notes.
4. To exercise delegated financial and administrative powers.
5. To ensure steps against encroachment, vandalism and mutilation of monuments.
6. Conducting exploration and excavation.
7. To check measure various type of conservation work.
