The UCEED 2024 application opened on 3 October 2023. Generally, the application process starts in this month of September 2023. The UCEED is held for admission to IITs and IIIT Jabalpur for B.Des courses. Candidates from any stream can apply for UCEED 2024 IITs and IIITs do not offer admission to candidates who have not science in the 12 standard.
The application fee has been increased this year. There is a nominal increase in it.

Eligibility Criteria for applying for B.Des
To apply for admission to the B. Des programmes of the participating institutes, i.e., IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur, an applicant is required to fulfil ALL the following three criteria simultaneously.
Criterion 1 – Age limit:
The candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 1999, if belonging to the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category and, on or after October 1, 1994, if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD category.
Criterion 2 – UCEED qualification:
The candidate should have obtained a rank, in UCEED 2024.
Criterion 3 – Qualifying examination:
The candidate should have passed in all five subjects in the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2022 or 2023. Those who appeared in 2021 or earlier are NOT eligible.
Candidates from the Science Stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects are eligible to apply to all the five participating institutes (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur).
Candidates from any other stream (Science without Mathematics or Physics or Chemistry, Commerce, and Arts and Humanities) are eligible to apply to IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Hyderabad.
For admission to BDes at IIITDM Jabalpur, only students with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics /Biology at 10+2 can apply. Students from Arts or Humanities at 10+2 are not eligible to apply for BDes admissions at IIITDM Jabalpur.
Candidates from the Science Stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects are eligible to apply to IIT Guwahati. Candidates from any other stream (Science without Mathematics or Physics or Chemistry, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are NOT eligible to apply to IIT Guwahati.
The candidates appearing for their qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2024 should ensure that (a) all parts of their final examination are completed by the date of application for admission, and (b) proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the required eligibility is submitted by September 30, 2023 to the admitting institute.
If a qualifying Examination Board awards only letter grades without providing information on the passing grade on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying the passing grade and upload it along with the grade sheet. In case such a certificate is not provided, the decision taken by the UCI Committee will be final.
The criteria, as specified above, are applicable “in toto” to all the applicants including foreign nationals. Seats allotted to foreign nationals are supernumerary with a cap of 10% of the total seats in a program. Applications from foreign nationals holding OCI/PIO cards are considered under the OPEN category and they are outside the ambit of reservation of seats under the EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST categories.

UCEED 2024 Exam Pattern
- Part A will be administered thorough a computer based test and will consist of three sections (NAT, MSQ and MCQ).
- Part B will have two questions: one on Drawing and the other on Design aptitude. The question in Part-B will be displayed on the computer screen and the answer has to be written/drawn in the answer book provided by the invigilator only.
- The duration for part B would be 60 min.
UCEED 2024 Syllabus
UCEED syllabus (Effective from the year 2024 onwards) UCEED will test candidates for open, creative and inquisitive disposition, ability to think critically, capacity to comprehend and communicate, and breadth of worldview. It will have two parts.
Part-A will have questions from the following topics: Visualization and spatial reasoning: Ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships. Practical and scientific knowledge: Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects. Observation and design sensitivity: Capacity to detect concealed properties in day to-day life and think critically about them. Attention to details, classification, analysis, inference and prediction. Environment and society: General awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design. Analytical and logical reasoning: Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information. Language: Proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English. Creativity: Grasp of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols.
Part-B will have questions from the following topics: Drawing: Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective and shading. Design aptitude: Capability to practically and appropriately respond to problems/situations with ingenuity and empathy. Note: The topics given above are exhaustive and indicative of the nature of the questions. However, the UCEED may not cover all the topics.
