This system, recommended by an expert panel in February 2024, aims to promote continuous improvement and excellence in higher educational institutions.

NAAC Accreditation 2025 – New Accreditation Levels: From National to Global Excellence
Institutions will be accredited on a scale of 1 to 5, with Levels 1 to 4 recognized as “Institutions of National Excellence” and Level 5 as “Institutions of Global Excellence for Multi-Disciplinary Research and Education.” This phased approach encourages institutions to refine their processes, deepen their expertise, and broaden their disciplines.
Key Features of Maturity-Based Graded Levels
- Data-Driven Approach: The system relies on authentic data, with minimal expert visits for verification. Institutions will face heavy penalties for incorrect data submissions.
- Stakeholder Validation: The accreditation process involves stakeholders, including industry players and leaders, to ensure relevance and impact.
- Phased Improvement: Institutions can progress from one level to the next, with each level representing a higher standard of excellence.
NAAC to Roll Out Revised Accreditation Policy by February-End
According to Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairperson of the NAAC Executive Committee, “Once the Maturity-Based Graded Levels accreditation system is in place, it will weed out any scope of illicit activities since it will involve stakeholder validation.” The NAAC plans to roll out this new system by the end of February.
