Kendriya Vidyalaya Expansion 2024: 85 New Schools Approved by Cabinet

Kendraiya Vidyalaya will add more schools in the country as the cabinet committee on Economic Affair which is chaired by PM Modi has approved the proposal. There will be exapansion of Shivmoga KV Karnataka by adding two additional sections in all the classes under KV Scheme.

KV school is meant for the government employee children especially Central government. Though it offers admission to general public children but seats are very limited. The budget required for expansion is Rs.5872 crore. This includes capital expenditure of Rs,2862 crore(estimated) and operational expenditure more than 3000 crore.

There are 1256 operational KVs including 03 abroad viz. Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran and a total number of 13.56 lakh (approx.) students are studying in these KVs. Opening these school will require the staff for teaching and non teaching position. The figure given by KV for students capacity in one kv is 900 so if 85 school are being added estimated figure more than 80 thousand students will be benefitted by this move.

Employment opportunities is one KV school employs around 63 persons and it will create job opportunities for around 5300 candidates in KV School. Construction and other activities will also generate employment for skilled and unskilled labour.

History

The scheme of opening the KVs in India was started in November 1962 in the beginning 20 regimental school in defence stations were taken over as central school during academic year 1963-64 period.

In pursuance of the National Education Policy 2020, almost all Kendriya Vidyalayas have been designated as PM Shri schools, showcasing the implementation of NEP 2020 and acting as exemplar Schools for others.  

The KVs are some of the most sought after schools, due to their quality teaching, innovative pedagogy and up-to-date infrastructure.  There has been continuous increase in the number of students applying for admission to class I in KVs every year and the performance of the students of the Kendriya Vidyalayas in the board examinations conducted by CBSE has consistently been the best among all educational systems.
