The application process for IIT Bhubaneswar PhD admission is entirely online, and candidates are required to apply through the official website, http://webapps.iitbbs.ac.in/phd-application. The application form must be completed with accurate and relevant information, and candidates must upload all the required documents, including academic transcripts, certificates, and a recent photograph. Candidates must also pay the application fee online.

IIT Bhubaneswar invites applications for admission to the Programme for the year 2024–25 (Autumn Semester) in the following categories:

  1. Institute PhD Scholar
  2. Sponsored PhD Scholar
  3. Joint MSc-PhD Students of IIT Bhubaneswar (to be offered only for Autumn Semesters admission)
  4. Institute Staff Category (IIT Bhubaneswar)

IIT Bhubaneswar PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria:

  1. School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Management
  2. Minimum 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA required in all other examinations from Class 10 onwards (5% of Relaxation in secondary, higher secondary/equivalent is permitted.)
  3. minimum of 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA in a Master’s degree in appropriate Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines.
  4. All Engineering Schools:
  5. Candidates must possess a B.Tech./BE or equivalent degree in appropriate disciplines with a minimum of 70% marks or 7.5 CGPA.
  6. Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA required in all other examinations from Class 10 onwards.
  7. 5% of Relaxation in secondary/higher secondary/equivalent is permitted.

OR

  1. M. Tech./ME or equivalent degree in appropriate disciplines, with a minimum of 60% marks or a 6.5 CGPA.
  2. School of Earth, Ocean, and Climate Sciences:
  3. Master’s / equivalent degree in appropriate disciplines with a minimum of 60% marks or a 6.5 CGPA.

OR

  1. B Tech/BE or equivalent degree in appropriate disciplines with a minimum 70% mark or 7.5 CGPA.
  2.  A minimum of 60% marks, or 6.5 CGPA, is required in all other examinations from Class 10 onwards. (5% relaxation for marks in secondary/higher-secondary/ Bachelor’s degree, Equivalent is permitted)

NOTE:

  1. The Candidates must be GATE/ CSIR-UGC NET (LS) /JAM/ JEST Qualified in an appropriate discipline.)
  2. Some Candidates under category Mentioned in Official Notification need not be GATE or CSIR-UGC NET (LS) qualified.

NEW UPDATES FOR UGC NET to Ph. D. Admission 2024–25

The University Grants Commission has decided based on the Expert Committee’s Recommendations in its 578th meeting held on 13 March 2024 that from the academic session 2024-25, the NET score can be used for admission to Ph.D. rogrammes in place of entrance tests conducted by the different universities and HEIs. From June 2024 onwards, therefore the NET candidates will be declared eligible in three categories as follow:

Category-1 Eligible for (i) Admission to PhD with Award of JRF and (ii) appointment as Assistant Professor

Category-2 Eligible to (i) Admission to PhD without JRF and (ii) Appointment as Assistant Professor and

Category-3 Eligible to (i) Admission to PhD programme only and not for the award of JRF or 

                    appointment as Assistant Professor.

 IIT Bhubaneswar PhD Admission Shortlist Criteria:

  1. The candidate must fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria as specified in the official Notification. school may fix additional criteria in terms of marks/scores. Moreover, school may put additional criteria in terms of the discipline/branch of the candidate at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  2. In addition, the following categories of candidates will be automatically shortlisted (they need not be GATE/CSIR-UGC NET (LS) qualified) to written test:
  3. B.Tech. and Dual degree/equivalent students of IIT Bhubaneswar and other IITs having CGPA >= 8.0
  4. . IISc M. Tech. /M.Sc. degree holders with CGPA>=8.5

IIT Bhubaneswar PhD Admission Selection Process:

  • All Shortlisted Ph. D. Applicants including sponsored and Institute staff category will have to appear the written test and Interview.
  • The Ph. D. Selection Based on the 40% weightage in a written test and 60% weightage in an interview.
  • The Final Selection will be based on combined performances in the written test and interview.
