Hyderabad Central University Unrest: Key Development
- Indefinite Protest and Class Boycott: The University of Hyderabad Students’ Union (UoHSU) has initiated an indefinite protest. They announced a boycott of classes starting today. They are demanding the removal of police personnel and construction machinery from the disputed site.
- Detention of Students: On March 30, several students were detained by the police for attempting to halt land-clearing activities. They were later released, but tensions remain high on campus.
- Political Involvement: A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Alleti Maheshwar Reddy, was prevented by police from visiting the university. In order to support the protesting students in the campus. This has escalated the political dimensions of the dispute.
- University’s Response: The university administration has refuted claims by the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC). The claims were regarding a survey conducted to demarcate the disputed land. They assert that no such survey has taken place and emphasize the need for transparency in land-related decisions.
