 Teacher Eligibility Test (TET)
TET exam is a Teacher Eligibility Test that is conducted for teachers in various states. If you aspire to become a Primary or Secondary School teacher, you can appear for these government exams and score well with thorough preparation. To select the eligible candidates, these exams are held every year in offline mode. Let us see all aspects of this exam in the following sections.
 
Level of TET exams:
There are three TET exams conducted for teaching students of different classes. Aspirants who want to teach students of certain classes have to appear in the respective exam and clear it to apply for the respective classes in various schools or colleges. These categories are as follows:
 
i.PRTs or Primary teachers: This is meant for classes 1-5. The age limit for applying to this test is 30 years.

ii.TGTs or Trained graduate teachers: 
This is intended for classes 6-10. This age limit for this exam is 35 years.
 
iii.PGTs or Post Graduate Teachers: This is for classes 11-12. The age limit for applying to this test is 40 years.
 
CTET Exam:
 
It is a test similar to the TET exam, but the Central Board of Secondary Education conducts it two times every year. Anyone who wants to be a teacher in government schools needs to crack it. Once you clear it, you will be able to join renowned government schools like Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan(KVS) and Novodaya Vidyalaya Samiti(NVS).
 
Eligibility for TET entrance exam:
A candidate has to get at least 50% in the graduation exam, which is the primary criteria that need to be fulfilled. Along with this, a B.Ed or some prescribed training program or course has to be completed to be eligible for appearing in the TET exam. The exam includes 2 papers and has separate eligibility criteria for each. Let us see each of them separately:
 
Eligibility criteria for paper 1:
 
Any of the following conditions have to be fulfilled for appearing TET paper 1 exam:
i. Completion of Senior secondary or some equivalent exam by obtaining a score of 50%.
ii. Candidates who are in the final year of a 2-year diploma degree in elementary education can also apply.
iii. Those who have completed Senior Secondary or equivalent exams with a 50 % score and a 4-year bachelor’s degree in elementary education can appear in this exam. If students are in their final year, they are eligible too.
iv. Candidates who have completed graduation and have passed or currently in the final year in a 2-year diploma course in elementary education can appear for the TET exam.
 
Eligibility criteria for paper 2:
 
For appearing the paper 2, you must fulfil any of the following criteria:
i. Completion of graduation or currently in the final year of a 2-year diploma in elementary education.
ii. Passed graduation with a 50% score and currently in 1 year of B.Ed or have completed B.Ed.
iii. Candidate who has cleared the senior secondary exam with a 50% score. Even those who have completed or currently in the final year B.El.Ed can appear for the exam.
iv. Those who have already completed or currently appearing in the final year of the 4-year programs like BA, B.Ed, B.Sc., or equivalent courses can also apply for the TET exam.
 
TET or CTET exam pattern:
 
The question paper for these exams is available in English and Hindi.
Paper 1 is meant for primary teachers who can teach classes I-V, and paper 2 is intended for secondary school teachers who can teach classes VI-VIII. Candidates who want to teach classes from I-VII need to appear in paper 1 as well as 2. The questions do not carry any negative marking. The pattern for the TET and CTET exams is quite similar and are as mentioned below:

Teacher Eligibility Test qualification score:
Ministry of Human Resource Development has set up some norms for qualifying in these exams, as mentioned below:
i. General candidates need a 60% qualifying percentage, with 90 being the TET or CTET score, the total marks in the exam being 150.
ii. SC, ST, or OBC candidates need a 55% qualifying percentage with 82 as the score in the exams out of a total of 150 marks.
 
Teacher Eligibility Test validity:
The score obtained in the TET certificate Calidity and that of the CTET certificate is lifetime. Based on the certification after the exam, you can apply for a 2-year B.Ed course to fulfil your dream into a profession.
 
Filling up the TET application form:
· Candidates need to login to the official website to fill up the TET application. Click on the ‘Apply Online’ button to see the instructions page. Go through all the instructions to fill the fields in the application.
· Click’ Next’. You will find a Review Page, check if everything is fine, and click on ‘Final Submit.’
· A registration number will be issued to the candidate who has to be saved for future reference.
