DU VC Yogesh Singh interacted with VCIS trainee students-Delhi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that we should prepare such children for the country who will be useful to the country in the future. Develop the feeling of patriotism in them and set an example. Prof. Yogesh Singh was talking as the chief guest in an interactive session with the part-time trainees selected for the academic year 2024-25 of the Vice Chancellor Internship Scheme (VCIS) organized by the Dean of Student Welfare Office at the Council Hall in Vice Regal Lodge of the University. On this occasion, all the people associated with the Dean of Student Welfare Office including Dean of College Professor Balram Pani and Director of South Campus Professor Shri Prakash Singh and hundreds of trainees were present.

On this occasion, the Vice Chancellor directly interacted with the trainee students and listened carefully to their experiences and views. Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that the objective of the VCIS scheme is that the students of the university get the experience of working in different departments. There should also be a consideration on how they think and what benefit the university can get from it. While addressing the students, the Vice Chancellor said that two things are very easy in life, saying no and finding faults, but we should talk about finding solutions to problems. He called upon the trainees to focus on research based work and also study the working of departments of other very good universities of the world, similar to the department in which they are working. This can benefit them a lot and the university will also get a new flavor.
At the beginning of the program, Dean Student Welfare of Delhi University, Prof. Ranjan Kumar Tripathi welcomed and greeted all the guests including the chief guest. While highlighting the achievements of VCIS, he said that students are the life and soul of the university. He also thanked the Vice Chancellor for starting this scheme. A brief report on VCIS was presented by Joint Dean Student Welfare Prof. Sangeeta Gadre, which highlighted the objectives, progress and vision of the internship program.
The program was conducted by Deputy Dean Student Welfare Dr. Chandra Prakash. At the end of the session, Joint Dean Student Welfare Prof. Hena Singh presented a vote of thanks expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants and organisers for their contribution. The event was organised with the continuous support of Deputy Dean of Student Welfare Dr. M. What is VCIS:
The university has introduced the Vice Chancellor Internship Scheme (VCIS) from the academic year 2022-2023 with the aim of providing internship opportunities to its UG and PG students in the university. It was conceptualised by DU Prof. Yogesh Singh.
The scheme offers two types of internships, VCIS Part-time Internship and VCIS Summer Internship. Part-time internship is provided for a period of 6 months during the academic session. The working hours are flexible time of 8-10 hours per week. A stipend of around Rs 5,000 per month is provided per trainee. Summer internship is provided during summer vacations. The duration of summer internship is 8 weeks. The working hours are 20 hours per week. A stipend of around Rs 10,000 per month is provided per trainee.
After completing two cycles of VCIS part-time and summer internship, the DSW office has started VCIS part-time internship 2024-25 for the third time from November 17, 2024 for 6 months. This time 190 trainees have been selected and deputed to 48 different departments/centres/institutes/offices of Delhi University.
