DU Librarian Dr Rajesh Singh receives Best Librarian Award

Delhi University Librarian Dr Rajesh Singh has been awarded the ILA-KAULA BEST LIBRARIAN AWARD 2024 by the Indian Library Association. He has been given this honor for his outstanding contribution to the development of Delhi University Library System, Delhi University, Library and Information Science profession and his important role in the modernization and advancement of library services in Delhi University.

Dr Rajesh Singh has nearly three decades of experience in library and information science. His professional journey began as a librarian at Sainik School Purulia, West Bengal (1995-1997), followed by Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, Jharkhand and IASE, MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, U.P. Subsequently he served as Assistant Librarian at Dr. RML Avadh University, Faizabad and later as Deputy Librarian at Delhi University Library System, University of Delhi (2006-2020). Since December 2020, he is serving as University Librarian at Delhi University Library System.

Dr. Singh initiated and regularly conducts the Information Literacy Programme at Delhi University, imparting training on information skills to students and researchers. He has also developed curriculum-based electronic resource capsules for postgraduate students and introduced a new course on ‘Information Literacy for Research Aptitude’.

Under his leadership, the Delhi University Library System has undergone significant modernisation with the installation of Electro-Magnetic Library Surveillance System, Patron Traffic Counter System; Digital Signage System; Computer Kiosks OPACS; Interactive Computer Panel; etc.

Dr Singh has contributed significantly to capacity building by organising training programmes, workshops and internships for library professionals. He has played a key role in plagiarism awareness and research ethics training. Which has benefited countless scholars and academicians across India.

Dr. Singh has published three books, 54 research papers in national and international journals, developed four course materials and presented research papers in 22 national and international conferences. His commitment to academic excellence and development of information services has made a lasting impact on the LIS profession.

In recognition of his exemplary leadership, innovative contributions to library services and dedication to advancing library science, the Indian Library Association has conferred the ILA-Kaula Best Librarian Award 2024 to Dr. Rajesh Singh during the 70th All India Library Conference to be held at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Ratchur, Karnataka from 20-22 March 2025.
