The primary goal of the All India Bar Examination (AIBE Entrance Exam) is to evaluate the aptitude of an advocate to practice law in India. AIBE entrance examination is conducted to test the foundational skills of candidates, and it sets a standard minimum requirement for entry into the legal profession. The test aims to assess a candidate’s analytical capabilities and comprehension of fundamental legal knowledge.

Upon successful completion of the examination, the Bar Council of India will bestow the candidate with a “Certificate of Practice”.
The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is administered in 40 cities throughout India. Candidates will have the option to choose from 11 languages in which he/she wants to take the exam. The examination will be conducted in a multiple-choice format, an open-book test.

On April 10th and April 30th of 2010, the Legal Education Committee and the Bar Council of India held meetings and passed the notification that enforced the All India Bar Examination.

AIBE Application form

The application form opens in December and the application process ends in January

AIBE Admit Card

The admit card will be released on the official website of AIBE, candidate will be able to download the admit by entering their details as registration id and password

AIBE Passing percentage

BCI has mentioned minimum passing marks for each category as under:
General/ OBC category – 40% marks out of the total marks
SC/ ST category – 35% marks out of the total marks.
AIBE Eligibility Criteria
To take AIBE, candidates need to fulfil the eligibility criteria as mentioned below:
Education: Candidate must have a three- or five-year LLB degree from a recognised institute or university
It is a must for candidates to be enrolled as advocates with respective State Bar Councils, according to Section 24 (1) (f) of the Advocates Act, 1961.

There are no age restrictions for individuals applying to take the exam, neither for the upper nor lower age ranges

FAQS About AIBE

1. Is AIBE Mandatory?
Appearing for the AIBE exam is mandatory for all law graduates who have completed their degrees in or after 2010. However, advocates who graduated in the year 2009 or before are exempted from taking the exam to practice law.

2 . Can I practice without Aibe?
Ans – Yes if you are registered with the state bar council, you can practice law before clearing AIBE.

3. What are the minimum passing criteria

40 per cent for general students while it is 35 per cent for reserved category students
