The Central University of Chennai has started the financial scheme for non-teaching staff to upskill. The motive of the scheme is to make them attend conferences and workshops across the country. Under this scheme, the non-teaching staff will get Rs.20,000 per annum, which can go up to Rs.60,000 in special cases, according to university officials. The program has been started from this academic year.

Expansion of Upskilling Opportunities for Non-Teaching Staff
Earlier, this facility was limited to teaching staff for upskilling, but now it has been extended to non-teaching employees. “I have noticed that our non-teaching staff are equally talented. This year, four of our non-teaching employees have enrolled for PhD courses at the university,” stated VC Krishnan.
Notable Example of Staff Initiative
It has happened that one of our librarians went to attend a workshop at her own expense. The workshop was in her domain. So, VC Krishnan said, “I felt the non-teaching staff should also be given the opportunity to upgrade themselves.”
New Developments at Central University of Chennai
CUTN will soon open three new departments—Pharmaceutical Science, Food Science, and Foreign Languages—as it has received necessary approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC). VC said that the university is already receiving inquiries about these courses, and keeping in mind the rising demand, the departments will be set up soon.
Infrastructure Expansion Plans
“The construction of new departments will start soon after the work on new quarters for employees is completed, following receipt of funds from the Centre,” added Krishnan.
